A weekend retreat, led by Buddhist monk and author Gelong Thubten, focusing on some of the key themes from his second book, the bestseller ‘Handbook for Hard Times’. Thubten will explain some of the Buddhist methods for deepening our compassion and working with challenging situations, emotions and relationships. There will be a special emphasis on the practice of forgiveness. 

A great opportunity for a weekend retreat of learning and practice. For those traveling from afar, reasonably priced accommodation is available at the nearby hotels, within easy walking distance across the park in front of the meditation centre. 

Suggested donation £50 (all funds will go to charity) per day, although nobody will be excluded due to lack of funds.

Join us for an inspiring weekend at The Sangha House in Taunton, with the renowned Buddhist Monk and bestselling author, Gelong Thubten. This in-person event offers a unique opportunity to learn from one of the UK’s most influential teachers of mindfulness and meditation.

Throughout the weekend, Gelong Thubten will share insights from Buddhist philosophy and guide us on a transformative journey towards inner peace and happiness. We will explore ancient Buddhist practices and gain practical tools to apply meditation and mindfulness in our daily lives. The weekend will be based on the practices presented in Gelong Thubten’s book, ‘Handbook for Hard Times - a monk’s guide to fearless living’.

Gelong Thubten will explain methods for working with life’s challenges. Regular meditation helps us to transform our thoughts, emotions and reactions, and our experiences of suffering can become steps on our journey to liberation.

Topics will include:
exploring our fears and how to become more fearless,
establishing a daily meditation practice,
working with suffering, developing compassion and
practising forgiveness.

The event runs for the two days, Saturday and Sunday, so an opportunity for a real deep-dive into Buddhist thinking and practice.

Each day begins promptly at 11.00 am, and will end around 4.00pm.

Gelong Thubten’s latest book, ‘A Handbook for Difficult Times’, is based on Tibetan Buddhist meditation and written in an accessible style for everyone. Thubten explains how life’s difficulties can be an opportunity to deepen our meditation practice and discover our inner strength. By embracing our suffering, we develop deeper compassion and wisdom, and find an indestructible inner happiness.

Thubten's book offers a roadmap to fearlessness, with valuable meditation advice and practical exercises. It includes methods for integrating loving kindness, forgiveness and wisdom into our daily lives.

At the festival, Gelong Thubten will give a lecture on the topics in his book, followed by a question-and-answer session and a signing session of his book.
